I put a lot of free music up here.. Check it out if you feel like it!
So I’m fortunate enough to live a lifestyle called “Every Day is Saturday, Every night is Friday night” or as i so cleverly have code named it…. Edis. More than a lifestyle its kind of a goal in one sense, and kind of a belief in another sense… I’ll explain a little more. As far a goal goes.. What do we all want? [Almost] Everyone i know has something that they HAVE to do.. and something that they LOVE to do.. i.e. You have to go to work so you can get some money and go and buy that new camera for your photography. Or you have to do overtime so you can get money to record at the studio rather than your boys closet in his basement…. What most of us want is to do what we love to do and get paid for it. Thats the goal… we LOVE to party.. but we have to pay for new clothes, shoes, parking, drinks, etc… Wouldn’t you love to get paid to party? Get paid to do what you love doing??
Ever since we started school, most of us have looked forward to Saturday (at least here in the states) because we didn’t have school that day, or the next day. Even Sunday wasn’t as good as Saturday because you had school the next day, so you most likely had to be in bed, or in the house at a respectable time. Saturday was the golden day.. and that mentality stays with you, even through adulthood. A lot of people won’t accept jobs where they have to work weekends. When we got older, Friday and Saturday nights became synonymous with partying/chilling/relaxing/having a good time. And thats because most of us look forward to a release after a work week.. a few days of NOT working… doing anything else but working. Most people get paid on Friday, but you’re still at work so you can only go and spend that money Friday night.. stay up late Friday night, Sleep-in Saturday Morning. Best part of the week. But how do i make everyday just as good?
Thats the goal, to reach the point where you have everything taken care of. No money issues, no overtime, just your time. Do what you want to do, What you Love to do Everyday, and Every night. Wake up at whatever time you feel, because you went to sleep at whatever time you felt.. and in the between time, you did something that you LOVED doing, and got paid for it. Bliss aka Edis.
So to get there… what do you have to do? Hit the lottery? lawsuit from Starbucks? Mmmm not likely. most of us have to work towards a goal and THEN achieve the ultimate success with that goal… a music producer needs to land that first record that puts him on the map… a photographer wants that huge ad campaign or mag job… but to get those things normally takes a lot of luck, a lot of good timing, and a whole fucking heap of hard work.. but i have to wake up at 7am to be to work by 830am… this is the belief part.. the part that I’m in. I believe that my hard work doing what i love will get me to the point of not having the financial worries/burdens. I BELIEVE!! So much so that after i got fired from my Job at Sam Ash Music in 2006, i never filled out another Job application. i just went to the studio more.. i went to other peoples studios to sell beats, i started writing songs for other artist… i started doing what i loved to do.. but i still have the burdens and worries… i’m very far from rich. With the music industry changing, technology allowing people to record studio quality sound in the closet in their dads basement… money is getting more difficult to come by in this industry. But not impossible. I’ve been surviving from, and even supporting my family from my music and my belief for more than 5 years now (my gf is a model so she lives the same type of life as me… and we just had a daughter.. still no huge problems…) And i don’t have plans on looking for anything else to do anytime soon. I don’t focus on the negative things i hardly even see them.. i just stay focused, party, and live life like Every Day is Saturday, And Every Night is Friday Night.
Every rapper knows we learn as go further in this music.. And the more we learn, the more we create as well.. We have to create new and innovate things for ourselves to do just to keep ourselves from getting bored, as well as the listener.. A few years ago I was at a stage where I wanted to make the next line tie into the last line.. That was an interesting stage. Lines like “…i’m on your heels/ you done left this food sittin too long/ I’m on your meals, yea/ the fly on the wall been spying on y’all/ waiting for the perfect time to go and dine on y’all…” or “…I’m the Screwface cash cow/ it’s a filthy shame I’m about to milk the game/ no bullshit/ beef I don’t fool wit, I eat til I’m full bitch..” then go on to connect the section with “mad cow diseased/ click-clack pow deceased/ y’all ain’t as crazy aint as wild as me, I’m the one…”
So it just kept it interesting to see what would start off the next set of bats, or trigger the next thought. Maybe a rhyming word, maybe a key word with two meanings of which I only used one.. I would use that second stanza of rhymes to capitalize on the second definition… Double entendre = a lyricist best friend! Ha ha
